Caution - 3+ years later my toaster is dead! Feb 04, 2011
By Swp I purchased the graphite model in April of 2007 and it died on me today, less than four years later!
Viking was helpful in directing me to their Detroit reapair center, and the repair center was helpful, responsive and courteous enough. But I've been informed that it's proabably a dead circuit board that can be repaired for an additional $49.95 -- plus my shipping cost to Detroit.
I was sufficiently pleased with the performance of the machine while it worked, but the durability irks me. I presumed that at this price the machine would last more than 4 years. This has been a disappointment.
I will not be buying this item again, much less sending it in for repairs.

Best Toaster Jan 20, 2011
By Paintsheets I love this toaster, it's sturdy, uncomplicated, and handsome. It doesn't do anything extra, because I really didn't need and never used the extras. It is expensive, but I am sure it will last for a long long time.
FINALLY a good toaster May 22, 2012
By John Zornes You would think that a toaster isn't that difficult to make well but apparently it is. I have tried many toasters and most won't toast sourdough bread to a golden brown, you have to put it down at least twice. The alternative is that one edge is burned and the other is tartar.
This toaster has slots wide enough to take a sliced bagel AND it toasts things to brown. You have to turn it up to almost max for moister breads but it gets the job done better than anything else I have tried. The heating elements extend to the edges so toast is very even all the way to the edge. The construction is solid and the looks are great. The exterior doesn't get too hot either so no fear of burning yourself. If there is any complaint it is that, at times, the bread toasts slower than you may want but I would rather have great toast than burned bread in 1/2 the time.
The price is moderately high but make the purchase, you won't be disappointed.
Design Flaws but Gorgeous May 16, 2012
By Grandma Vic I have wanted this Viking toaster forever because of the fab design-5 stars; function-3 stars. Anyone who paid the full amount for this toaster had to be disappointed though. It finally was reduced to an affordable price so I got my dream toaster. It is as other reviewers have stated--turning up the dial to highest #6 produces pale toast-but I like it that way. Another reviewer mentioned there was no Cancel button. You don't really need one. The lower settings do not toast the bread very much at all. There is no cord storage; no bells and whistles. That being said--it is beautiful on my counter and makes toast; what more do I need?
Excellent Quality & Performance Apr 24, 2012

I'm on my second Viking Toaster. This exact model.
There's not much you can say or write about when it comes to a toaster but in the Vking case, what I really appreciate is its weight, build quality and consistant performance.
It is heavy. It won't slide for any reason. Rubber feet at the bottom are large and ample.
The handle has both a DOWN position and a EXTRA UP position to raise the toast above the top of the unit so that access to the bread is easy and not restrictive.
Temperature gauge si 100% accurate/no issues.
Well worth the price here on Amazon and my second and current unit is now at 6 years in age and doing fine.
