2Chrome Finish - lackuster Performance  Nov 25, 2007
By Margaret Suzanne Fuoco
Don't be tempted by the $40 price. This is an OK toaster at best. Using one side works as an average single toaster, but using two sides just doubles the toasting time. The heating elements in mine are no longer lighting up fully after only one year. No crumb tray - just take it outside and shake it upside down. It's sad that this had to be built and packed in China, shipped all the way here, then become pretty much useless after one year. My previous toaster - now being used again - has lasted for over 40 years...

5It's a fine toaster  Jun 29, 2011
By S Gilbert
I spent about 6 hours researching toasters on Amazon before buying. The result of my research: every toaster is made in China and every toaster has some number of DOA units or units that fail in the first couple of weeks. It's literally universal. Because most people who have no problem with their toaster (or anything else for that matter) will not post a review and conversely a large percentage of people who have a bad experience will post a bad review to bash that product, there is no way to really know what percentage of units of any particular product will arrive DOA or fail quickly. Based on that, I decided to buy this one retail for around the same price on sale. I figured if it is going to fail in the first month I can just get in my car and return it.
I've been using this for a week and it is fine. It toasts bread fast. It looks nice and matches our stainless steel appliances. It HAS crumb trays, one for each side, contrary to another review here. It does have that yummy chemical smell the first couple times it goes through toast cycles, which every other toaster has, too, so run it two or three times with nothing in it next to an open window before putting food in it.

5Loving it!  Aug 19, 2009

Toasts superfast, looks super spiffy on the counter. Plenty wide for bages, etc.... Doest NOT have the little "clamps" that hold up soft breads, but not a big deal to me and it was waaaay cheaper than anything comparable.

4Better than my KitchenAid!  Dec 12, 2011
By Flemingbird
Let me start out by saying that we had a 4-slice KitchenAid toaster for years and it was okay, but we settled on having to constantly flip it over to get it even and not quite crispy. We finally had enough and decided to invest in a new one. I did tons of research and found this one on sale for only $29. At first I was very doubtful because the two push down levers seem a little flimsy and you have to really push them down until they click. But the toast it makes is AWESOME. It doesn't squash the toast but instead almost toasts it from the inside out. I refer to it as diner toast because it has that wonderful crisp to it when you butter it and bite into it! It almost makes the toast seem thicker when it is done. It took us a few tries to get the setting we wanted, but it makes the toast much better than our old one and I am willing to put up with the need for a little more elbow grease to push the lever down. And it DOES have crumb trays - two of them in fact -- that slide out for each cleaning. We also LOVE the cancel feature which prevents us from having to try to force the lever up, and the bagel button is wonderful because it prevents that backside of the bagel from burning. We're not only happy with the toast it makes, but the style and look of it is so vintage. AND YES, it did smell awful at first -- but the instructions specifically say to run it on the high setting through two cycles empty. Once we did, no more smell!

5great so far  Dec 07, 2011
By bfk
ive had this for about two months and its great. not sure what other reviews are talking about, there are two slide out crumb trays which are very nice. it came with a warning about the smell for the first uses, so i ran it a few times outside and its been smell-free. toasts four pieces of bread in a reasonable time, and the bagel setting works great. i was hesitant to buy this after some of the reviews, but my 2 slice toastmaster was so good i decided to give it a try and am glad i did!
