Um, not every recipe that uses rice still counts as "sushi." Feb 20, 2011
By SJS I'm all for well-executed fusion cuisine, but this sushi cookbook by Yumi Umemura features some extremely odd, unappetizing recipes. Examples include "Taco Sushi" (store-bought taco shells filled with sushi rice and ground beef seasoned with ketchup and Tabasco sauce) and "Sushi Pizza" (plain white rice, flatted into a circle and covered with tomato sauce and cheese). Beyond the uninspired recipes, however, the writing in this cookbook is repetitive, stilted, and just makes for a very awkward read. It's also riddled with typos and inaccurate information (p.162: Korean sushi rolls are called "kimbap" not "kimpa"--something any quick Google search can tell you).
Overall, not a bad book if you want to know basics, like how to prepare sushi rice or roll a standard sushi roll, but there are plenty of videos online that offer a visual explanation of those very skills. This book's one redeeming quality, however, is Noboru Murata's photography--though I wouldn't touch half the recipes in this book, every last dish is beautifully photographed.

By D. Austin I purchased this book for a Christmas gift. I was amazed at how wonderful the pictures were! It made me want to eat the pages! I hope the recipient enjoys the book and can learn how to make wonderful sushi!

Review for Sushi Lover's Cookbook Nov 23, 2010
By tbo808 I was very pleased with my purchase of this product. The book was in excellent condition and was just what I expected when it came to the quality recipes inside. I highly reccomend this book for anyone who loves sushi and wants to make it themselves.
