5Stansport Cast Iron 20 Quart Dutch Oven  May 28, 2011
By Larry Hoelscher
This item came in the original box packed inside another larger box with paper wadded up for packing. The dutch oven was undamaged. This was bought thru the Amazon Warehouse for 27.99 with free shipping. I was afraid of lid fit etc. at this price but took a chance on it. I was really surprised at the extra packing after reading some of the other reviews. The lid has an excellent fit and the dutch oven had nothing wrong with it. The only thing I could find wrong with it was the lid had "Tansport" spelled on it instead of Stansport. The oven cleaned up with more then a little elbow grease and I have gone thru 2 sessions of seasoning it in a 450 degree oven. It is really starting to look good. Well go camping next week and put it to use.

The Dutch ovens are a good oven. The shipping of these are another story.I had two shipped and both came in broken. Then they shipped two more and I got one that was good and one that was broken. The last one they shipped me was good. It took Five to get Two good ones.

1Heavy duty, but low quality.  Jan 30, 2012

Tried washing and seasoning it. Seems like there is some gray coating that needs to be removed beforehand, as another person has stated. Not sure what it is, but I buy cast iron to avoid unknown chemicals. Anyway, the seasoning didn't stick well, and the whole thing really needs to be sanded down. It's like there are metal shavings imbedded all over it, so without sanding they'll be in your food, and ripping up whatever you use to clean or wipe it down with. Maybe after a couple hours of sanding and then seasoning it, this will be a good enough product. The lid isn't tight either, but isn't a deal breaker on its own.

1Poor casting  May 31, 2011

The dutch oven was a very poor cast with many pits. Also, the lid does not seem to fit on the pan very well. Not sure if I will use this over the campfire as it may not keep the coals and ash out.
