Great Product Mar 12, 2007
By J. WINTER First let me explain why I purchased the Sharp "OTC". We recently updated our kitchen and decided on a standard hood vent for above our stove. When it came time to replace our Microwave that had been sitting on the counter, we wanted one that was a "space saver", i.e. Over-the-counter. There were very few to choose from! So we decided to go with the sharp.
I have not been disappointed at all! I was originally concerned about the installation. It was a breeze. The sharp is a nice size microwave as well, not a compact.
As for the 5 stars I've given it, I have very little complaints.
Pros: Big & powerful. Fairly easy to install. Great price (as compaired to Over the Stove types). This model has many great features as well. Sensor reheating, presets for popcorn, frozen foods,..etc.
Cons: Sensor reheat over heats food just slightly. Some reheating features are slightly complicated to use, so I don't bother. (lots of button combinations that I can't seem to remember yet)
I hope this was helpful.

Over the counter microwave Feb 24, 2006
By Brian Eichenser As the only over-the-counter microwave I could find anywhere, Sharp filled a big need of ours. We recently built a new home and chose the gourmet kitchen from our builder. This offered a very nice double-oven and island cooktop but no microwave. The Sharp over-the-counter microwave was the perfect solution to save counter space.
I really like this microwave and don't understand ANY of the previous negative comments I've seen on it. It looks great, works great and was easy to install. The task lighting is really nice above our granite countertops. This isn't a cheap microwave but in our kitchen, it looks more expensive than it was. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an over-the-counter solution.

Buyer beware! Jan 02, 2009

We bought this product about 14 months ago and installed it in our newly renovated kitchen about 10 months ago. When the microwave works, it's a good microwave -- works well, good looking, nice automatic sensors -- however, we've had some problems with it.
The big problem for us (and this is a big problem) is that in the 10 months we've had it one of the three internal fuses shorted out on 3 different occasions. Now that it's out of it's 1-year warranty the price of fixing that fuse looks like its >$100. Also, this microwave is going to be tough to replace becasue we've built the cabinet opening custom for this microwave.
I'm also going to complain to my kitchen designer and make sure that this appliance isn't going to be recommended to his other customers. Unreliable quality makes for an expensive appliance.

From Sharp Minds come Dangerous Products! Sep 23, 2009
By Michael Please note this review specifically relates to the R-2110JW model. However it may influence your decision making.
The Sharp "smart Carousel" design uses rotating magnetrons below the surface of the cooking chamber instead of rotating the food on a carousel. The rotating mechanism under the cooking chamber malfunctioned. As a result arcing occurred between the parts causing a fire and smoke. The unit was turned off in time to avoid a fire spreading to the surrounding cabinets. If no one had been present in the kitchen at the time a serious fire could have occurred.
The defect was bad enough. I consider myself lucky the damage was only to the microwave. Dealing with Sharp customer service was even worse. It has taken over two months to resolve this problem. Sharp offered me a replacement but couldn't get a new unit in white. We suggested paying the difference for an upgrade. We paid the difference for the upgrade...the sharp couldn't find it in white...even though I was able to locate a unit in white in about 5 minutes online. After giving up on a replacement and requesting a refund they "generously" offered me $183 for a product I paid $262. A product that endangered my home and family and had left me without a microwave for two months.
I've enjoyed Sharp products in the past but after this incident I can not recommend doing business with them under any circumstances.

Decided to review while looking for a micro to replace this one! Aug 23, 2009

There are not many choices for "over-the-counter" models out there, I wanted to see reviews of other models because I have to replace this Sharp model which is finicky at best! When it is working, the "Compu Cook" is so complicated I have to pull out the manual. But a more serious problem is that the microwave turns on all by itself, so we have to keep a bowl of water in it to avoid a major catastrophe, and occasionally the appliance blows a fuse, I noticed another reviewer had the same problem with the fuse as well.
