Sanyo Performance: Compact, Efficient, Quiet, and Easy to use. Oct 05, 2010
By Chef Zita Ana First, take note that Amazon is inter-mixing reviews for two entirely different models here: the Sanyo 6588 and 2588 series. THIS REVIEW IS FOR the EM-S2588W (2/3 ft @ 800 watts in white).
Next, consider that a compact microwave of this size is typically used for reheating a dinner plate, cooking a potato, heating soup, hot-water for tea, and warming up a brownie, cake, or other snack.
THE GOOD:
Interior light comes on as soon as you open the door. 'Instant on' via +30 second button for quick reheating. Three custom memory programs for your most common tasks. Nice full-height door handle (no button) for opening it. Compact, attractive design, turntable, 800 watts of power.
It CAN handle a dinner plate size of 10-3/4 inches diameter MAX... somehow I got lucky guessing the interior size, as our plates barely fit. (exterior dimensions provided by Amazon ARE accurate.)
If you're hoping it will handle a 10-7/8 inch diameter plate, NOPE. Again, that's 10.75 inches MAX.
THE BAD:
None, really... my partner is an engineer and he says "for an oven of this size, it performs well, is quiet, and heats evenly. Those who complain about it lacking power are probably expecting too much from such a compact oven."
THE UGLY:
One complaint mentioned about the control panel (our unit included) is the poor contrast (background vs. foreground) on the section with the 'one-touch' buttons for popcorn, potato, soup, etc... making them hard to read. Our solution was to memorize the position of the one (potato) button we use... no big deal. All the other keys are crisp and clear.
It appears Sanyo had quality control issues with screen printing in that section of the control panel, because it does -not- occur on every unit. Some resellers discount the affected units down to $55.
FINAL NOTES:
Pulling on the door handle may cause the unit to move around a bit, but this is easily solved by using your thumb for leverage against the control panel while pulling the door open with your fingers. And finally, we don't cook popcorn in a microwave (we make it the good old-fashioned way), so we can't review that function.
OVERALL, this is a GREAT little microwave, VERY compact, attractive, with an easy-to-use interface.

Extremely Disappointed!! Oct 19, 2010
By Star The microwave is attractive and it was shipped and received a lot sooner than anticipated! I was overjoyed! I too had been searching and researching trying to find the right compact oven that suited my needs and this fit the bill! I read the review that stated that for no reason, the clock suddenly shut off. I did NOT heed to this warning feeling that she must have done something wrong because all of the other reviews were positive. So, I went ahead and ordered the microwave. I have only had the microwave for 2 weeks now and NOT only did the clock shut off BUT the power shut off on the entire unit!! I couldn't believe this happened to me! I unplugged the unit and replugged and pushed buttons. Nothing happened. I began to look for the box that the microwave came in so I could return it and ALL of a sudden the clock popped back on!! What's up with this? I felt relieved and the next day decided to pop a bag of pop corn. Everything SEEMED to be working properly and I was happy again BUT the clock shut off again immediately after the pop corn popped!!! Oh no!! I was pushing all sorts of buttons on that microwave and nothing was working!! I waited once again for about 5 minutes and the clock suddenly popped right back on. I am looking at my microwave oven now as it sits quietly and innocently on my kitchen counter, it looks soo pretty (heed, everything that glitters is NOT gold!) I know that once I have used it a third time I will experience the same problems. I am thinking of returning it but I really don't feel like going through the process of packing it up and shipping it out. I started NOT to write this review BUT my conscience wouldn't allow me NOT to Warn the other consumers that if they order this product, to order at your own risk. This product was advertised on the Amazon.com website but was shipped out by Buyer.Com. I will say buyer beware!! So, I would NOT recommend this product to anyone!!

Just What I Needed! Jun 12, 2009
By Jono I'm very pleased with this product. It's just big enough for everything I need (fits a full sized dinner plate), and yet has a very small "footprint". The turntable works well, and is hard to find on such a small microwave. 800 Watts rather than the typical 700 Watts is nice for such a small unit - plenty of power. I also like that it does not have a push-button door opener - I've never found those to be easy to use. This unit does an excellent job, in a small space, and at a good price.

It's a nice microwave... Sep 23, 2009
By Anonymous10,000 But it's only $60 at Bed Bath and Beyond, and you can knock 20% off of that if you have one of their ubiquitous coupons.

A great little microwave Aug 22, 2009
By Melissa Kaler Great product - perfect for a college dorm or for small spaces. Works like a charm - heats up water fast within a minute. I used to have a cuisinart microwave and it was always frustrating that it didn't heat up fast enough. But this new one works great.
