Works just fine Jun 13, 2009

Update: May 16,2011: Alas, the Sharp died in April, 2011. Believe it or not we bought another of same model. I looked at several others... all of which had poor reviews. The Sharp is relatively cheap so thought I would stick with it until someone comes up with a good one over long term. Microwaves used to last for 10 years or so. No idea what has happened to current technology.

A couple months back we needed to replace our GE microwave which died suddenly. We use the microwave daily so needed a replacement sooner rather than later. I planned on another GE since we have used all GE kitchen products for 30 years. Looked in Consumer Reports and Amazon.
Surprise! GE microwaves were a disaster according to customer reviews at both CR & Amazon. The CR top rated oven, a GE, had 26 of 38 reviews at or below 2 stars. Sears & Panosonic did not fair any better.
This Sharp was down the list on CR ratings but had great reviews. Sharp microwaves on Amazon had solid reviews. The appearance of this one was perfect for our kitchen and had large capacity. Found it at local Fry's; Ta-Da. (I don't know if this family could function w/o a microwave!).
We've had it for two + months now and it does everything it is supposed to do. Very pleased. Large turntable & capacity are major pluses.
I have no idea what is going on in the microwave indusdry; it seems like the ovens are failing at a far more rapid rate than before. I'm hoping Sharps buck the trend.

Good product, good price Nov 29, 2011
By Frank S. We replaced our home's original Sharp microwave (20+ years) with the Sharp R520KST, which we chose based on our trust of the brand and its style. The R520KST is not as tall as the original, but it is deeper, which is an advantage. The updated features are a pleasant surprise because they take some guesswork out of setting times and cook levels. We had a small cosmetic complaint (a small styrofoam bead between the glass door panels???), but Sharp sent a warranty technician to our home within the week for an easy, free repair. Our only concern now is whether the R520KST is as durable as the Sharp it replaced. Only time will tell, but so far we are very pleased with its performance and looks.
Better buy Extended Warranty- they don't last like they used to Feb 13, 2012
By gator Sharp R-520KS 2-Cubic-Foot 1200-Watt Microwave Oven, Stainless Steel
We replaced another Sharp microwave that we liked and had used for about 7 years with this one- worked great for about 2 yrs- then it died- The quality is slipping- Best to buy extended warranty if you buy a Sharp

Very expensive repair Jul 16, 2010
By R. Hart I bought a Sharp Microwave Oven R-426HW about five years ago. The START switch had to be coaxed into functioning. i took it to a repair shop, but they could not repair because Sharp had exclusive repair centers. Took it to Sears ($29.99 up front). Ten days later Sears called to say it needed a new touch panel which cost $183.00 plus labor. Sharp Microwaves are not repairable. I am looking for a new microwave and it will not be a Sharp.
