1GE -- You're going downhill  Jan 02, 2010
By RobRen
12 1/2 months into owning this microwave (which by the way I loved), I was cleaning it with a wet paper towel when pieces of the white interior started coming off of the top. I've never seen this happen before. Called their customer service and was told that it's actually paint and they would be happy to sell me some paint so I could paint the inside of the microwave myself. Wow, that's great customer service. I'm not sure what upset me more, telling me to buy the paint or telling me to paint it myself. Microwave lasted another 9 months before the magnetron blew (it looked like a nuclear bomb went off inside of the microwave...really scared us). I was assured that they would fix it but it would cost me upwards of $119 for labor, etc. Obviously I'm not getting it fixed. My last GE microwave lasted me around 15 years. I wasn't expecting this one to last as long (they don't make things to last anymore) but I certainly expected a lot more than 2 years.

2GE Spacemaker II  Feb 22, 2010
By Jamesbarone "jb2inpa"
Microwave fits the spot and has worked well. Just hopped online to order another one because I was afraid to use it since the paint was peeling off the top. Read another review and see this person had the same issues. Im sure theres more people experiencing this, but it looks terrible and Im just questioning what effect it has on the foord, waves, etc. Now looking for one the same size.

5Love this little powerhouse  Jun 16, 2010
By mv_shark
Love this little microwave. We redid our kitchen entirely more than 2 years ago and it was tempting to upgrade to bigger this and better that. However, somehow I resisted a larger microwave and I'm so glad. This is the perfect little powerhouse for us. Easily fits a dinner plate, even a medium mixing bowl (marshmallows puff up a lot when you prepare rice crispie treats!), not to mention all the obvious small stuff -- leftovers, coffee, frozen meals, popcorn, etc.

I should mention it's also super-easy to use. Express cook so press one button to cook on high for 1-6 minutes; good "default" buttons for foods like reheat, popcorn and defrost (by weight or time); and a kitchen timer I find invaluble for all my cooking.

I'm about to buy another one for a family member so found the negative reviews. So here I am to add at least one vote of confidence ..we have NOT had any problem with the paint, lights, covers, etc. It runs perfectly and looks great.

1Poor quality product. Avoid  Jan 04, 2011
By Lucas B
Quality is really low - this is the least reliable microwave I've ever seen.

This came built-in when we bought our house fourteen months ago but the unit at the time was dead so we asked the seller to replace. He installed a brand new one and now this month, half the keys on the keypad became non-responsive. With a 12 month warranty on a 14 month old product we have no recourse with GE.

Even though it worked for the 12 months, we should expect more especially when the unit is designed to be built-in like this one. Buying and mounting a new one from GE or another company is huge hassle and could involve reconfiguring our kitchen's expensive custom cabinets.

I'm looking thoroughly for another brand to replace it but finding this size is difficult. Note this is the same as the GE Monogram Spacemaker (ZEM...) line except this has the Profile badge and a PEM... part number.

Avoid - especially if you're considering it as a built-in or for over the counter installation.

1Paint Peeling Problems  Nov 27, 2010
By Rdev
We also experienced problems with the paint peeling in this microwave. It is no longer under warrenty and I was told by GE that this was an isolated incident. Obviously, that is not the case. I would not recommend this product especially since GE is unwilling to stand behind their product.
