1Junk, pure and simple! There are better products for similar money...  Feb 21, 2005
By Derrick
The bottom line first: don't buy this piece of garbage. With far better choices on the market, such as the Cuisinart, the value equation just doesn't work out.

Another reviewer says that this works fine as long as you're not using it for ice. Well, I was trying to puree a soup made with fully cooked (soft) vegetables and chicken broth. What could possibly be easier than that? The shaft broke after a minute of use.

Even in this era of disposable "Made in China" stuff I couldn't believe it, so I read and reread the instructions to make sure it wasn't something I did wrong. In this case -- Oster, it's not me, it's you. After you look at the inside of this thing, it's easy to see why it broke. The shaft is so cheap and flimsy, it's a joke. Tiny gears made of the cheapest plastic drive the blade, they stand no chance of holding up.

I purchased a Cuisinart CSB-33BC Quick Prep Hand Blender after this thing disintegrated. The Cuisinart has been great so far. The materials are superior to the Oster. The nylon bottom can be used with confidence with any cookware. My primary use is to puree soups in the pot, rather than go through the messy process of transferring the hot liquid to my blender. So far, the same use that killed the Oster in a minute hasn't bothered the Cuisinart one bit.

Even if this Oster product works for some folks, why not buy a better product when the cost is the same? If you're not convinced, just go to a store where you can get your hands on this thing and the Cuisinart and a few other competitors. In comparison, the Oster looks like it should be an accessory for a kid's Easy Bake Oven set, not a serious tool for the kitchen.

1Very poorly made.  Dec 14, 2005
By J. Siers
This item needs zero stars, but that's not an option here. I bought this for Christmas 2004. After one use the handle broke off and we noticed there was a fine crack up the shaft. Oster sent us a new blender, no return of old needed, which was nice. We looked at it and saw that it, too had a hairline crack going up the shaft. One use and it also broke. They again sent us another. Guess what? It was the exact deal - it broke immediately. When I called again they stated they have never received any calls about a problem like this and I told them I thought it was pretty unbelievable that I was the only one in the United States with three blenders that break at the shaft. The person insisted she'd never heard of this complaint. Well, they wouldn't send me another of course and when I asked for a different model because that option was offered to me with the prior phone call, I was told no. I needed to cut off the cord and mail it back to them with the receipt for a refund. I couldn't find the receipt (very irritating because I always save that stuff), so they refunded me what they thought it was worth.

A very cheaply made piece of junk.

1a whiny blender  Nov 11, 2005
By Sarah Schwartz
The motor is more noisy than the Braun and GE immersion blenders, and it gives a sad little whine as it starts up and winds down, so I think there is a problem with the interface between the motor portion and detatchable blender portion. After blending for 15 seconds, the motor housing smells charred, so maybe there is a problem with the motor as well.

1NO POWER, BROKE AFTER A FEW USES  Sep 18, 2005
By -
1) Not very powerful

2) Broke after a few uses

I have used this blender several times for making spreads and sauces and it is not very powerful. Just yesterday when I was cleaning the removable shaft, a lot of nasty brown liquid and bits of plastic(!?) was pouring out from the inside of the shaft!!

I clean it thoroughly every time like I do all my other appliances. After reading the previous review, I suspect the gulk must be the cheap plastic wearing off!! Beware! This product can be a health hazard. Don't buy. If you already have it, you might want to run some water into the shaft and pour it out to see if nasty stuff comes out. I'm going to see to returning it or notifying the manufacturer.

1Broke 2 shafts on soft food...  Feb 12, 2007
By J. VALENTINE
I had a similar experience with two of these blenders as another reviewer. After the first one broke making milkshakes(the plastic housing that connects the shaft to the motor), Oster sent me a second one. This one broke in the same place making salad dressing - these just aren't designed very well.

I would stir by hand before I would ever purchase another one of these...
