Doubled pricing! Inconsistent, cost can't be counted on.... Apr 03, 2011

Had bought Omaha Steaks carnitas recently and they are delicious... but for half as much as they are now charging. Soon as they run a free shipping promotion on Omaha Steaks direct, they jack food price double to match on Amazon.com. When I went into my Amazon account to look into this, noticed they don't itemize prices and only offer links to the current product and price. Not until I went into my actual Amazon order could I check what they had charged previously. My advise is to pay close attention to price, count, and weight with this company because they have questionable and even deceptive business practices. Do your homework... sometimes Amazon.com offers free shipping for orders from this company over $75, but not lately. Depending on how much you order, shipping climbs considerably, but bottoms out at around $20 for what should be 2nd day air. I've had orders arrive much later however, despite this higher shipping cost. Considering I purchase fish from Catalina Offshore Products for no more than $10 shipping, it's hard to understand why they charge so much for a similar service.
As for quality, this varies greatly. I've purchased several Omaha Steak products, and while some are outstanding, others are either bland or mediocre. Try small quantities until you decide which you like. My favorites so far are pot roast and carnitas for instance, but I'm not fond of their crab stuffed sole (which is mostly stuffing) or pork chops which have little flavor. Many portions are smaller than they look in photos, and some items are poorly manicured for gristle or skin. Where they usually excel is with desserts however... these are most consistently tasty. I gave this product 5 stars because it is so good tasting, but wish I could have given it 0 stars on pricing for having suddenly doubled cost. Don't expect them to be low calorie as they contain a good deal of fat, some which I prefer to trim off before eating. TIP: They are great when eaten with naan bread or flour tortillas.

This was the first time I tried these smoked pork loin ribs and I must say..........they were scrumptious! They were about 1/2 bone to 1/2 meat but truly succulent. Quick and easy to prepare in my convection oven. I will be buying these again when Omaha Steaks has it's next 50% off sale.
