No frills, no thrills Apr 20, 2007
By informednow This was my first pressure cooker. I bought it because it was cheap and be easy to operate. It was both of these and more. I learned to cook with this aluminum cooker, how to gauge time and amounts of water etc. Mirro has been around forever and replacement parts are readily available for all their cookers. As with all aluminum pressure cookers, the metal will react with some foods and can overheat if you are not careful. This style cooker has the "jiggler valve" on the top that rocks back and forth and hisses when pressure builds. Personally, I like this as it provides audible and visual feedback as to what is going on inside. You can go in the next room and still hear the hissing and know everything is going well.
This (and all modern cookers) are very safe if you follow directions. I was afraid of pressure cookers most of my life and this inexpensive one has soothed my fears. It comes with a heat diffuser disk that sits on the bottom of the cooker and a nice instruction/recipe book.
You can't go wrong with this, especially if you are a novice who does not want to spend big bucks on the electric cookers or expensive Swiss ones. It does the job and does it well.

good pressure cooker, odd that a rack does not come with it Mar 09, 2010
By sunnyNM I like the pressure cooker and it cooks the food well. In the owners manual it says to cook foods like potatoes, parsnips, etc. "on the rack", however there is no rack that comes with the pressure cooker. I called Customer Service and was told that I had to buy the rack separately. I asked where I could find one and she referred me to [...]. She said I only needed the rack for canning. I explained that I only had a 6 qt. cooker and would not be canning in it, but that I would probably be cooking potatoes which required a rack. She said the only rack they sell is for the large 22 qt pressure cookers for canning.
[...] only sells the racks for canning, nothing for smaller pressure cookers.
I should have bought a Presto Pressure Cooker which comes with a rack. I can however buy a Presto Pressure Cooker rack and use it in my Mirro/Wearever Pressure Cooker so aside from the frustration of having to do so, that ends my problem with the Mirro Pressure Cooker.

6 Quart pressure cooker mirror aluminum Feb 19, 2009

If you have a glass top I would not buy this model
Amazon says the following in the description 15 lb. pressure control. Removable self sealing gasket. Safety fuse. Heatproof handles with reminder ring. Strong aluminum alloy. Rack and instruction booklet. Not recommended for canning. It does not have a rack in mine, it does not have a 15 pound control, it is 10 pound by the instructions. Amazon says nothing about cooking on a glass top, instruction Book says not to use on glass top stoves because the bottom has a concave in the middle that won't allow it to get up to pressure, Well I have a glass top and not wanting to send it back I tried it, came to a boil faster than a old (20 or more years)I own, Put the lid on and it locked fairly quick, maybe 5 minutes? steam started coming out of the top, I waited about 2 minutes and put the weight on, maybe 6 to 8 minutes it was bounceing like it should, so much for not coming up to pressure on a glass top stove. The finish is super polished, Looks like stainless steel not aluminum. add photo does not do it justice.
After the test and using it once I found another DO NOT USE ON GLASS TOP, so I sent a E mail to consumeraffairs@wearever.com today here is what I asked model 92160 6 quart cooker Bought it on line at Amazon.com the descripttion on their web site didn't say any thing about a glass top stove.
in the instructions saw that it might not come up to pressure on a glass top which I have, I tested it with just water to see and it came up to pressure really fast, twice as fast as my old mirror 4 quart flat bottom pressure cooker I have. so I cooked a resipe of rice pudding in the book and it did what it was suppossed to do, came up to pressure fast and cooked just like the book instructions time setting. Then I was rereading the instruction book some more and I came accross this Got it and in the page 2 of instructions and it says
do not use on flat glass top or glass ceramic ranges could damage cooker, this cooker has a curved concave bottom which will not make proper contact with the cooking surface which could result in damage to your pressure cooker. what do they mean damage, is it going to blow up or what. I can't understand why it would be any diffront than a electric coil wire stove top, it wouldn't contact the bottom any more than My glass top, in fact less ,,according to you to get proper contact you would have to use a gas stove only. Is it safe to use on my glass top? 2-19-09

This is a really good pressure cooker. Did everything we wanted it to. BUT it didn't come with a canning rack. We bought this so we could pressure cook some jars, not for jelly, but none the less, we had to make a rack out of disposable pie tins.
Mirro 92160A 6 quart aluminum pressure cooker Apr 29, 2012
By Diane McGee I have a Mirro 40 yr old Pressure cooker that I love. The gasket is old and needed replacing so I tried to do that but the replacement is too thin to create the seal needed to build up the pressure so I ordered this cooker. The quality of this cooker is not as good as the one I have and I couldn't get the lid back on . It claims it is a 6 quart cooker but my original one is 6 quart and the new one is much smaller- I am so disappointed I cannot continue to use my original one. It has served me well for 40 years and the only problem with it is I need the proper width gasket and that does NOT seem to exist!!! In my opinion in this instance NEW is NOT better.
