Love this serving tagine! Nov 09, 2010
By Foodie fan
""Annie""
This was the first serving tagine I had ever purchased five years ago and I loved using it so much I bought the entire line of Le Souk serviceware from the Cooking.com site. I use this tagine nearly everyday to keep foods hot or cool. Great for hot biscuits or hot breads on the table. Now when using it for outdoor buffets or patio service it really shines. How wonderful it is to serve foods that are bug free and hot or cold which ever you foods place in it. My husband parks this tagine next to his beer on the grill shelf and lifts the lid to toss in the meats as they ready to come off the grill. This allows the meat to rest to retain its juices and all meats are still hot by the time he is done with several rounds of grilling. And what an exotic table it sets. There is a matching collecton of small to large long oval matching serving dishes that really save space in your buffet that makes it easy to create beautiful and unusual table settings. It adds a bit of drama to lift the lid and present your artfully arranged foods or a stack or perfectly hot hamburgers. The tall matching coffee mugs of this Le Souk pattern have a bell shaped base that are not only attractive but keep your coffee or cocoa hotter longer.
When I was brand new to Moroccan cooking and all its specialized cookware, it was confusing which tagines were for cooking and which were for serving. Now it is easy. If it has a shiny slick glaze on the outside and inside surfaces with thin walls (1/8" -1/4 inch), or states it is 'porcelain' it is likely a serving tagine. Traditional cooking tagines have heavy clay walled lids and have glaze on the inside and perhaps the outside. They may have a hole in the lid or not. They usually are plain or have fewer decorations. These can be used for serving foods but the lids are pretty heavy. I now have a collection of clay, porcelain and metal Moroccan and French made cooking and serving tagines I treasure. Please be cautious to purchase cookware that is safe for food use. Some tagines are used just for decoration because they have lead based glazes on their surfaces you can easily test for. But try this one. You will get hooked on it like I did.

The mistake Jan 06, 2009
By Carlacara I bought this tagine for myself and my two daughters right after we returned from Morocco, not realizing the lid didn't have a hole like a proper one should. Then I discovered it needed a metal plate to sit on because it couldn't be placed directly on a hot stove. Today I tried it for the first time (with the metal buffer underneath). A few minutes after I put the onions to cook in olive oil, the tagine broke open and spilled oil into the gas stove flame. If I had been a few inches closer, I would have been engulfed in flames. There's nothing in the description that informs the buyer this is a SERVING tagine, not one meant for cooking. It's pretty to look at, but too dangerous to cook in.

Color represented is way off! Dec 28, 2010
By Laura Ember If only this looked like the picture! It was actually a much deeper blue...an electric blue, not a turquoise. I was really disappointed, I guess I will go to Morocco in the spring to pick some dishware out for myself. The manufacturer needs to correct the exposure to approximate what you will find when you unwrap the goods!

Beautiful unless you want to use it. Only for show Jun 29, 2011
By talmadine I ordered it and when it arrived it was beautiful and then I saw that it was for decorative purposes only. I wanted one I could use. Back it went

My mistake Jan 02, 2012
By Nancy L. I didn't read the description closely enough before I ordered this -- I was so taken with the beautiful design that the fact it said "serving" tagine didn't register. You can't cook in it. It arrived promptly and was very beautiful, but I wanted to be able to actually cook in it, so it had to be returned. I must say, tho, the company was very responsive and processed both my order and my return very promptly. I gave it 3 stars only because it's not functional, just decorative. However, if you are looking for a lovely serving piece, I would highly recommend this particular tagine.
