5A great gift...  Apr 23, 2012
By Lundy Wilder
My sister gave each one of us our own copy of this book for Christmas a few years back. Even if you never cook a single dish, it is fun to read and remember. Sadly I ate too few meals at Justine's. I was a kid and later poor college student. So now, we pick a recipe now and again and feast. This book is a wonderful hostess gift for anyone raised in Mempho or not.

5WHEN JUSTINES RULED -- THOSE WERE THE DAYS!  Jul 04, 2010
By Susan Haynes Miller Houston
You entered the sumptious, old world elegance, and Mackie would greet you. He was a King and loved to fish.

How much we all now enjoy catching up as Mike Cannon plays "AS TIME GOES BY." No one hits the piano notes better than Mike. While on earth, Mike played like an angel and now his heavenly music leads the Hossana chorus. Ah, I just asked him, "Mike, please one more time -- THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG." He replied, "Susan, it's like the old days but even better."

Beneva cooks her heavenly meals, and up here in the Holies of Holies -- where there is no color divide, no any kind of divide -- we all sit together and pray for the day when Justine will join Beneva, Julia Child, and Craig Claiborne in the kitchen. Ah, then ensemble, what a glorious feast we will break bread over -- one "MADE FOR LAUGHTER" and JOY.

I used to see through a glass darkly, but now I see clearly. When Justines fell, the old world charm that leavened Memphis's darker impulses vacated faster than the TGV departing the Gare du Nord. They turned the Red Room into a small replica of the dining room at Las Vegas's Bellagio. My dear cousin, Peter Taylor, stands aghast. "But how, Susan Haynes Miller ..................?"

"Well Peter," I say, "there is still hope in the young."

PLEASE JANET RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though, I don't blame you because Colorado looks a lot like where I am now.

God Bless JUSTINES -- "Play it Again, Mike"
