5Just When You Thought You Knew All About *I Love Lucy*! Great For Fans!  Nov 23, 2011
By Alex Honda "onyx575"
The I LOVE LUCY: A CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS LUCY book by Elisabeth Edwards is a fantastic over-sized book that will delight any fan of the beloved red-head, her Cuban husband, and their best friends.

Naturally, I love "I Love Lucy: The Complete Series" and have all the DVDs, most of the "I Love Lucy" Mattel dolls (I only bought the dolls from the episodes that I really love like "LA At Last," "Job Switching," "Lucy Gets A Paris Gown," "Be A Pal," "Lucy Does A TV Commercial," and "Lucy Gets In Pictures," among others), and various books like Bart Andrews's wonderful I Love Lucy Book and Lucille Ball Treasures, so I didn't think that Edwards's book would contain anything new. Boy was I in for a treat!

Not only does the book contain numerous pictures of the cast and crew while on the set, it also has photos from behind-the-scenes, photos of Ball and Arnaz with fans, home pictures featuring Lucie and Desi, Jr., and of course photos of the actual episodes. And you get reproductions of popular food ads from the 1950s in a chapter entitled "Lucy The Foodie," which features a section on the various foods that were shown on "I Love Lucy," plus...wait for it...RECIPES!

That's right, you get some select recipes for making your own Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken With Rice), Eggs Benedict, Swedish Rye Bread, Homemade Butter(!), Spanish Omelet, Cobb Salad, Escargots à la Bourguignonne, and Chicken Fricassee! Fans of the show will recognize many of these dishes, but for those scratching their heads most of the above food items were featured on the show -- especially the Arroz Con Pollo -- because most of the times the "Ricardoes" and the "Mertzes" were always eating.

The book also has episode synopsis arranged by theme, as well as an episode list, biographical information on both the fictional characters and the real stars, memorable quotes from the show, a fantastic chapter on the fashion clothing of the show, Emmy Award listings/nominations and Nielsen Ratings.

A chapter called, "The Soundtrack Of I Love Lucy," was another one that surprised me. It contains information on the music that was played during the show and how vital it was, and this chapter contains lyrics to some of the songs! You get the lyrics to "California, Here I Come," "Ricochet Romance(Rick-O-Shay)," "Shortnin' Bread" (with a recipe for shortnin' bread), "My Hero," "Mama Yo Quiero," "Cuban Pete," "Cuban Cabby," "El Cumbanchero," "I'll See You In C-U-B-A," "We're Having A Baby," "There's A Brand New Baby At Our House," "Y'All Come," "Friendship," "I Love Lucy," and last but not least, "Babalu." Unfortunately, "Lilly Of The Valley," "The Queen Of The Gypsies," "A MacGillicuddy Is Here," and "I'm In Love With A Dragon's Dinner" isn't included but the ones that are explain what episode they appeared in, allowing you to sing-a-long if you'd like.

Anyway, October 15, 2011 marked the 60th anniversary of the show "I Love Lucy" and since it debuted, the show has never been off the air. Somewhere in the world, someone is still laughing with Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel. :-D And this 60th anniversary book, I LOVE LUCY: A CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS LUCY..., will be a great holiday gift for any fan of the show.

5Another Wonderful Book by Elisabeth Edwards  Feb 05, 2012
By J. Stratton
This is yet another beautiful book by Elisabeth Edwards about my all time favorite show, "I Love Lucy". It's shares some of the same information from her 50th Anniversary book, but it is in a totally different format and in addition it has the song lyrics, recipes and even more wonderful pictures of the cast.

2Lucy Book is disappointing  Feb 15, 2012
By Le Bibliothécaire "Biblio"
I was very disappointed in this book. I had hoped it would go into detail about the show, but it was just a series of photographs and fluff pieces about aspects of I Love Lucy. It just provided highlights. It was not what I expected at all.
