Greek food for everyday of the week. Mar 25, 2011
By wogan
"the book reader"
This book presents many Greek recipes and the theme that this is one of the best examples of the healthy Mediterranean diet. There are more than recipes here, there is a section explaining the traditional Mediterranean diet and showing the healthy eating pyramid, lovely pictures of Greece and stories of trips to Greece and of food eaten.
The recipes contain ingredients that are easily obtained, with perhaps the exception of goat meat. Recipes included are; appetizers, vegetable dishes, beans, grains and pasta, seafood, meats, healthy desserts, including baklava and beverages. Before each section are a few pages that explore the healthy aspects of that type of food; for example omega 3 and seafood, studies on red wine with beverages. Especially good were; the Greek salad, a lighter eggplant moussaka, sweet potato, zucchini, and feta tart, and pasta arugula, tomatoes, feta, and kalamata olives. We made the sesame and anise cookies without the anise , substituting more sesame seeds for the amount of anise seeds and they turned out wonderful.
With all the emphasis on healthy eating, I wish there was nutritional information with the recipes; but this book will help you add a healthy Mediterranean diet to your cuisine. Until the 1960's, when most Greeks were eating this type of diet they had the longest life expectancy in the world, so there must be something to it and enough of a reason to try this type of cooking .

Best Moussaka recipe Apr 02, 2011
By Kensington Reviewer Just made the Moussaka recipe (the meat one) from this book. It was absolutely fantastic. It did take me three hours but the instructions were clear and everything came out perfectly. Hopefully it will be faster next time. I did take the meat out and just increased the tomato sauces. Honestly, one of the best things I have ever made and I cook all the time.

FANTASTIC! A COOKBOOK ESSENTIAL! May 06, 2011
By Ashley T. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has thought about learning how to cook Greek food but has always felt intimidated by it. This cookbook has shown me that Greek dishes are actually quite simple to prepare. The dishes featured in this cookbook are easy to cook, and the best part is--these dishes are so good for you! I love the fact that this book explains the health benefits of eating Greek--from garlic and olive oil to delicious tomatoes and broccoli. Beautifully photographed with engaging stories that are great to read while waiting for your dishes to cook. This book is wonderful!
