Description:

Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.

5Best Ramikens Ever  Dec 01, 2011
By M. S. Anderson "bUzzbOmb"
This is our 3rd set Emile Henry Ramikens.
We use them all of the time.
Originally we got 2 sets at our wedding. We got the green ones with a beige interior, which seem to not be manufactured right now. We broke 4 of them over the years
and felt we needed to get another set. I decided to go with more colors, blue in this case and we may pick up another set of a different color since 8 never seems to be enough.
It will make our table more festive.

We like that they are made in France and not china. China scares me since there have been lots of problems with lead in the glazing in products from China.
Also I found out that since products from China have been tagged for using lead, their manufacturers have moved away from lead as a hardening agent which is good.
The US has policies against lead use.

But the Chinese have found another hardening agent for which we have no regulations.... Cadmium a known carcinogen and toxic metal.
Since we don't as a country regulate its use in our products I am wary of mass production tableware I eat off of that is made in China.
I prefer to go with products from countries which have been doing it the right way for at least more than a century now.
Now do I know all of this is true? Not really, but it makes me nervous.

I would rather buy from artisans and craftsmen who have been making great products all along and in smaller quantity.
These ramekins are really well made and nice sized for small kids snacks and such. We use them every day.
They look fantastic and add a bit of charm to any table.
I will buy many more sets of these over the years.

These are very high quality products, but if you aren't sure what a ramekin is, it is a fairly small serving bowl. Something about perfect for dipping; like french dip.

As with all the Emile Henry products, the glazing contains no lead or cadmium, so unlike a lot of the products from china, they are safe to eat from.

5Good product  Oct 05, 2008
By A. Ryazanov
It is a good product, quality and such.
But it is a bit smaller then I wanted.
Amazon description on sizes is very poor.
For example this product is listed as 7.2 x 7 x 2 inches ; 3 pounds,
but shipping weight is 2 pounds. How that can possibly be. And the size is 3.5 not 7 inches. I do not care of the size of the package but rather each individual piece.
And the problem is not just with this product, but with many others as well. I had similar confusion with PC speakers.
