Non-Teflon With Some Compromises Sep 05, 2009
By Caramalizer Earth Pan II is brought to you by the Meyer folks. After moving on from Starfrit, I am glad to report this "SandFlow" non-stick performs almost like conventional Teflon. As usual, I am skeptical about claims of Eco-friendliness (probably driven by the 33% reduction in energy required to cure the surface). But the 600°F oven rating is impressive since some pans don't even specify a maximum temperature rating. If the temperature at which the coating disintegrates is that much higher than my everyday cooking range, then that's added peace of mind for me.
The 8" is a great size for scrambling 2-3 eggs, although it seems to take forever to brown anything. The coating is a fairly slick light gray (as opposed to the rougher non-stick you get from, say, Calphalon), and shows no signs of wear and tear after a month of gentle use and hand washing.
Those of you who don't like heft will appreciate its light weight. It has a very nicely sculpted handle fastened by rivets, but I do wish manufacturers would get past the nostalgia of protruding rivets and give me something that is flush--inside and outside--so it is easier to clean. After all, hand washing is recommended.
So far, it seems to be a quality product with superb fit and finish--and a joy to use.
NINE MONTH UPDATE: The non-stick is now about 70% as effective as it was on day one (I feel this happens with teflon non-stick pans too). I figured out that if I preheat the pan first, sausages brown really nicely. I think this is what the pan is best suited for--frying at high temperatures where teflon has the risk of breaking down and becoming carcinogenic. Clean up is effortless. Eggs are a different matter. I catch myself using a little more oil than usual. Fried eggs stick, and flipping them for 'over easy' often leads to broken yokes. Scrambling eggs can result in a layer of egg being left behind (see photo), but I find that if I keep moving the egg around, I can significantly reduce this. For some reason, if I cook another batch, the previously stuck egg actually releases itself from the pan. I can clean off most of what's left with a nylon brush. I've found it's easiest to clean when you let the scrambled egg dry to a crisp--then it pretty much just flakes off. A little finger nail action removes the remainder. The non-stick surface still looks good as new. 4 stars.

Disappointed Oct 21, 2009
By Lynn The pan was completely non-stick for about 10 washings and then food began sticking--especially eggs. When I called Farberware, the customer service representative acted like I had done something to make it non-stick--perhaps I used cooking spray or I did not clean the pan completely. That is not the case. The pan looks as new as the day I bought it and I rarely use cooking spray unless I am baking. The pan does have good heft and it does cook evenly-- which I find quite impressive--it is just simply not a non-stick pan anymore. I have cooked with many non-stick pans over the years--this product does not measure up to its claims. People who order this product are going to be disappointed after they have used the pan for a month or so.

disappointing Apr 25, 2009
By James Jew Purchased this with hope of getting something healthier and non-stick. However, after a few washings it is no longe very non-stick. Have has it a few months. I may have to get something by Cuisinart instead

Good for 1month--NOT NON STICK long term Oct 29, 2010
By Angela Price I purchased this for my husband so we could get rid of the old flaking teflon and wanted to go with something "Greener". My husband loves to make over easy eggs and for the first month this pan worked great, but now our eggs are sticking VERY badly. Even with butter or oil, we have sticking problems.
I wish it was the pan for us, but everything sticks now. So, I search on for a pan that isn't toxic and doesn't stick...because this one might be non toxic, but it does stick to food!
I never used any metal tools on it. I always hand washed, never used the dishwasher on it. I have treated this as a baby and can't believe my treatment of pan could have been the cause of the non stick no longer working.

waste of money Sep 21, 2010
By geets bought it as I did not want to buy teflon.it was difficult to clean from the start -- it didn't feel like non stick. I used it to make omelet, and heat some indian tortillas---the gray surface turned brown --with 2-3 uses and now 1 mth later the pan is completely black. It was a total waste of money. I never put it in the dishawsher. I don;t want cookware to last forever but this didn't last even a wk .. would never recommend to buy it .
