Very good quality immersion blender Jan 19, 2009
By Kirk Robey As some other reviews have mentioned, labeling this as a 500 watt unit is a bit inaccurate, as the US version is really only 320 watts. That does not detract from the fact that this is a very effective blender. I have used large commercial sized immersion blenders in a professional kitchen which would be overkill for home use, but the Dualit is perfect for my needs.
I have used it for emulsifying salad dressings and blending fruit smoothies. It quickly purees fairly thick soups (gallon-sized quantities in a large stock pot) with no stalling or overheating.
I highly recommend it.

Not 500 watts! Oct 14, 2007
By D. Umphress I wanted to share this with others who may order this for the 500watts of power - it is only 320 watts! I burned out a 250w blender recently, and ordered this thinking it was double power. It wasn't much heavier when I removed it from the box, so I looked at the motor, and it said 320w. Evidently the 500w was the power of the european/220v motor, even though the outside of the box says plain as can be "500w".
Needless to say, I returned it. I can't really rate it, just say it isn't what it says it is.

Sent it back Feb 20, 2007

After a minute of use, this unit was hot to the touch. You would think that 500 watts of power would last longer than that! I sent it back and Amazon has a great return policy. I was able to purchase a different unit quickly.

Great little blender! Feb 07, 2011

I've had this little stick blender for over a year now, and it's still going strong. I've used it for making smoothies, ice blended drinks, soups, whipping egg whites, making whipped cream, and even for making lotions and conditioners (very thick and creamy). I use it on a very regular basis, nearly every day. And, while some reviewers have noted that it gets hot to the touch after only a minute of use, I have not had that problem with mine. It take 3-5 minutes of running it on turbo for it to get hot to the touch. Once it reaches that point, then I have to let it cool off, and run it in pulses if I'm still in the middle of a lotion or soaping project. I've been very pleased with it's performance and would definitely buy a second one if I were doing more soaping projects than what I'm doing now. I would want one for soaping, and one for cooking. It's been a great product, and I hope to have it around for several more years of hard use :)
Incidentally, I've had a Braun stick blender and a Thunder stick previously and neither one of them came close to the quality of this one. This one blends ice and fruit so smoothly that it is better than my KitchenAid blender. No ice chunks. Just smooth, creamy drinks. Did I mention how very pleased I am with this product? :D

Searched long and hard!! Dec 06, 2010
By knitknut Love, love, love this immersion blender!! Have been using it for a few weeks now and it has been everything I hoped for. The wattage, which in North America translates to 320 watts (so I hear) is more than enough to plow throw big chunks of frozen fruit for the smoothest smoothies I have ever made. My family may be getting a little tired of the liquid diet around here; no soup is safe from being pureed! I had originally been about to break down and buy the very expensive Bamix blender at Williams-Sonoma, as it does have very good reviews, but the unguarded blade made me very nervous. As it turns out, I did find a review from someone who said to absolutely not use the Bamix with Le Creuset pans as the blade will chip the enamel. Well, I always make soup in a Le Creuset pan, so that was out. I had looked at many different blenders and was tired of trying to figure what the wattage was for most of them. Companies are just saying "with a powerful motor" with no commitment re wattage. I finally decided to try the Dualit in spite of the many complaints about it. Mine doesn't overheat; hasn't died (yet!) and is ergonomically fine. I do use two hands often to hold it because it is very powerful and tries to suction itself to the bottom of the pan. Would not hesitate to recommend this blender!!
