4Expensive, but worth it  Feb 03, 2009
By Joshdog
We just got this machine over the holidays and have been more than impressed. In fact, we're down-right addicted to it. It truly is very easy to use and makes great espressos, lattes and cappuccinos (kudos to Nespresso for excellent pod quality). Has completely replaced Starbucks for us, which has resulted in big savings and convenience. Also perfect for dinner parties, where we can make drink after drink after drink with practically no effort.

The only issues I've found is that it does drip a little after making drinks, which leads to some clean-up, but pretty minor. And, those pod costs do add up, but that's the case with any machine and still a fraction of what you would pay at Starbucks.

Others have complained about the temperature of the drinks, and it is a little cooler than I would like for the first drink. However, I found that running the "clean" mode on the milk container before making the drinks helps heat up the tubes and makes for hotter initial drink. Also, quickly preheating the cup with hot water helps. All this takes about 12 seconds. Once you're past the first, it's fine.

One hint on the milk, we've found that using 2% "pasteurized" instead of "ultra-pasteurized" gives a better, thicker foam.

Only reason why four stars instead of five is the initial machine cost and ongoing pod cost.

3Ok, but there are better options  Feb 03, 2011
By Leonardo Faoro
If you enjoy coffee-only drinks, it works well. For larger (and milk-based) drinks, there are a few issues that made me return this machine:
- Frother is difficult to insert. The rubber seals are tight, and you have to push it in forcefully at times. I had the feeling that the seals or the plastic connectors might break at some point.
- Milk doesn't come out warm enough. Unfortunatelly, I tried for 2 weeks to adjust this by pre-warming the milk in the microwave and all the other tricks out there. It helps. But it's another step which can add to the preparation time.
- If you like to use farily tall mugs, the mug has to be narrow (diameter < 3 inches), which is not easy to find.
- You have to be very meticulous with cleaning the frother: rinse with steam, then rinse with water, otherwise it WILL clog.

Of course this machine has pros:
- compact and integrated. Place the mug and push one button and everything is done for you
- Good build quality. The buttons and the overall build feel good.
- When it works, the milk has a good froth.

This is not an experience of 2 days. I kept this machine for 25 days, really trying to make it work for me.

So overall, for this price I expected a machine that would be more straight-forward. The espresso part is just fine (as this is exactly the same as every other Nespresso machine out there), but in the end I wasn't getting the benefit that I expected. So I ordered a CitiZ with the integrated Aeroccino, which works well, has more space for mugs, and the milk comes out at a temperature that is more to my liking, and the only thing I have to clean is the aeroccino, which is a breeze.

5Best Gift Ever!  Jan 12, 2012
By O. Lindy
I got this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. The versatility, the ease of use, the taste of the coffee drinks - just superb! The machine can be adjusted so that the drinks are larger, the milk has always been the right temperature for me so far, and Crate and Barrel has some taller mugs that fit properly in the space provided. Clean-up is a breeze, the milk attachment goes into the dishwasher, and for the couple of drips after the espresso has brewed, I just put a paper towel under the dispenser. I couldn't be more pleased with this machine.

4Simple to operate, Makes good coffees, Pushbutton cleanup  Dec 30, 2010
By M. Kaz
I have the unit for 2 weeks. Overall I am very satisfied with the unit. This is really an automatic unit that is simple to operate and makes a variety of coffees & lattes real easy. You have a choice between small or a larger size cups/coffees. Excellent milk froth unit with 3 levels of froth. I am using the unit at our office without a sink, the machine basically cleans itself, just push a button. You can adjust the quantities of coffee and milk if you don't like the factory settings. New setup will be kept until you want to change t again or go back to factory settings. This allows you to experiment till you find the right settings for your taste. The machine makes good coffees & lattes.

What I did not like is not that bad. Coffee and milk come out worm, but not hot, if you want it hot there is no adjustment. The milk froth unit does not have a handle so it needs attention inserting it in and out of the main unit.

Some helpful notes:
For best results from the first cup - Read the short manual 2-3 times before using the unit. The manual has photos for each step. I Whish all manuals were that clear.

When I purchased the machine I did not know there are several type/size of capsules/coffee makers and they are not interchangeable. This Nespresso type machine must use Nespresso capsules only. The machine came with 13 samples of different coffees and an order booklet with instructions how to order the Nespresso coffee capsules at 51 cents each.

4Great coffee but too noisy  Mar 02, 2011
By Colorado Joe
My wife and I have had this unit for about 5 months now and we really love the coffee it makes: full-flavored and a little foamy (we don't use milk), just like a coffee bar in Italy. The small size of the unit is a big plus in our smaller kitchen. I really have only 3 complaints. First, the unit is LOUD while brewing. If you're the only one up on a weekend morning and you fire this thing up, you'll soon have company. Second, be careful not to overfill the water tray. We used to fill it almost to the top but would later find water leaking out of the machine and all over the countertop. So now we fill it less and the problem went away. Third, as a colorblind person I find the small, red "low water level" indicator to be almost invisible. I really wish manufacturers would stop putting red, green and amber indicators on devices so that colorblind people could see them. But the bottom line is that if you like Italian-style coffee bar kind of coffee, this is the unit for you.
