great product! Feb 11, 2004
By Shiloh I was surprised by what poor reviews most of the crock pots received on amazon.com, but I decided to buy this little one when I saw it at Target for $9.99. Figured even if it didn't work well, that's not much money to lose! Well, this is my first crock pot and I love it. I'm glad there's one this small. I usually fill it only half way and then have leftovers, but it could probably feed a family of four without leftovers. A lot of reviews for other crock pots said that the lids often fit poorly, but the lid on mine is perfect. I've used it seven times so far and everything has been wonderful! I particularly like the applesauce recipe that comes with the crock pot, it makes the best applesauce ever and it's nice to just peel them the night before and wake up to hot applesauce (also good over ice cream). Keep in mind that the crock pot only has the low heat setting, but I haven't had any trouble cooking recipes that call for the high setting in here. Just takes a bit longer. Also, it's not tough at all to convert recipes for larger crocks to fit this one. Mine doesn't have any problem with cooking to hot, maybe it was just the other reviewer's crock pot. I would recommend this to anyone, it's well worth the money!

Love this lil crock! Dec 10, 2003
By SONJA This lil crock is the greatest I use it for hot dips, and to keep the gravy hot for a huge meal during the holidays. The only thing I wish it had was a temp control sometimes it gets to hot and I have to unplug it for a little while, but all in all its a great lil crock!!!!

Great for Indian cooking for dhals, biriyani & more Jun 25, 2006

A friend gave this as a gift to me, and I did not use it for over 6 months. Once I did, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this slow cooker cooks lentils. I put the lentils with the water into the pot in the morning, and have cooked lentils for dinner.
I've put my pressure cooker away since this cooks without any mess.
It works well for Indian sambar, rasam, chole, vegetable curries and biriyani.
Indian cooking can be messy and the slow cooker helps to keep the kitchen very clean and without splatters.

perfect for small whole-grain meals ready when you need them Oct 09, 2006
By K. Levin My husband gets up by 5 am and I... well, I don't! :)
I bought this unit to make hot cereal so I could offer my husband a hot breakfast without having to (painfully) alter my own sleep schedule.
This is a great size for our family of three. I fill it with water and whole grains around 9 pm. My husband takes his breakfast at 5 am and unplugs the unit. When my son and I get up around 6 or 7 am, the cereal has cooled to a perfect temperature to eat right away without exceeding the "maximum 2 hours at room temperature" timeframe for food safety.
I want to eat healthy, but I'm not an accomplished cook. This 1 1/2 qt crockpot, together with the 2 qt model I use for dinner, allows me to cook whole grains and other "real" foods without needing any great skill or time to stand by the stove. I get to play with my son while still offering him old-fashioned home cooked meals.

not a good crockpot Jan 01, 2006
By a serious reader I have been using crockpots and cooking successfully in them for years, and this was my third. I wanted a small crock for morning cereal and dips. This crockpot has a major defect - no heat settings. It is either on or off. There is no low vs high. Hence my first attempt at cereal making resulting in the cereal burning on the bottom of the crock, and on the sides. What a surprise! This crock is being returned and I am going to try the Proctor Silex 1.5, which has three temp settings for a similar price.
