5Excellent results  Apr 28, 2010
By Joseph B. Atzberger
Infrared cooking is different than the cast-iron open-flame and aluminum charcoal grills I grew up with. Some adaptation of timing and techniques is required, but once you get the feel for it, you can get awesome results. Infrared heat is both more searing and less dehydrating. That might seem like a contradiction, but it isn't. The temps get higher, but without as much convection, so you get more browning and crusting and less hair-dryer desiccation of your food. Less drying also makes it better suited for slow roast BBQ than open flame. After a little practice, I'm getting exactly what I wanted in terms of results.

The build on this grill is solid, with the possible exception of the tiny hinges on the sideburner lid. I can live with that.

1Rusted very quickly  Jun 22, 2010
By L. Feldhendler
I was excited about the IR technology. It cooked fairly well. Then the burners started rusting. Char broil said it is not under warranty and said they would replace the parts for $100. Even the front doors on this grill showed rust and I covered it after every use. Very expensive throw away grill. I recommend you read their website about surface rust and rust warranty before buying.

5Tedious to Assemble, grills like a champ !  May 12, 2010
By J. Mchale "JFMJR42"
As stated previously, this grill was a bear to assemble. It took two people approx. three and a half hours (over a three day period) to fully put together. Once complete we tried it out and had excellent results with it so far. I can't wait to try it out with several different types of meats and see what it can do. All in all a good grill so far...but save yourself the hassle and pay the extra fifty bucks to have it put together !

1Great if you live in the desert  Aug 27, 2009
By Chris F. Schroeder
Bought this grill about a year ago. We live in Florida. While the grill works flawlessly, the chrome parts quickly corroded within less than one year. If you live in a humid envirnment, stay away from this grill - replacement parts cost almost $200 and who knows how long those will last. If you live in a dry desert or keep the grill inside your garage, you should be OK.

5Long assembly time, good looking grill  Aug 11, 2009
By Alfred D. Wallace
I got this grill yesterday. As usual from Amazon the shipping and delivery was flawless. The grill arrived in a HUGE box and the delivery folks brought it right into the house and left it where I asked them to. A careful unpacking of the box took a smidge over half an hour since I prefer to ID the parts and categorize them as I go. Assembly instructions were clear and unambiguous with pretty decent pictures to guide you through. Two tips as you assemble the grill: make sure to bring the burner ignition wires down on the right side as you go to avoid having to partially disassemble to get them towards the end of the process; pull the tank level indicator wire up from the bottom when installing the casters to avoid having to lift the whole unit at the end to find it. These are small things that didn't adversely affect the over all assembly, just a couple pesky things left out of the instructions. Also make sure to lose no washers, lock washers etc. because you get the exact number needed. :D

This was a gift for a friend, so I'll have to wait to see how his grilling experience is. I do know that we put it on his porch and lit it up and he grilled some dinner that night and was thrilled with it.

My total assembly time was 3 hours and 5 minutes, but I am a bit meticulous about these things.
