Artful and Authentic, a Must Buy! Nov 05, 2000
By Daniel Harry Brooks I heard about the Cafe Mima cookbook through a friend recently and I must say it is a real beauty. Finally a book that you really can judge by its cover(gorgeous)!Get past the cover and you will find an intensely personal and elegant tribute to the author's Cuban heritage. The book is arranged in Menu style, with specials of the day and a la carte items. Just pick a day and you have a whole menu presented to you. The recipes are straightforward and the pictures accompanying each recipe are artfully constructed; they have a very personal, handcrafted feel to them. Ultimately, however, the proof is in the pudding - so far I have tried Moros y Christianos (rice and beans), Papa Rellena (potato stuffed with ground beef), and Platanos Maduros Fritos (fried ripe bananas). Delicious! I can't wait to work my way through the rest of the menu. What's not to like? I give it two thumbs up (and five stars).

The best Cuban Cookbook! Mar 04, 2003
By D If I could give this book 10 stars I would! The book is beautifully photographed and the recipes are easy to follow. My father is Cuban and I grew up with Cuban food at the dinner table almost every day but never learned how to make some of the dishes that bring back such great memories of my mothers and grandmothers kitchen. This inspiring book has helped me do just that! I want to give kudos to Ms. Perez for such a wonderful cookbook and for helping bring a big part of my heritage into MY kitchen!

Beautiful book! Mar 04, 2003
By Ken Bryan I received this book from a friend of mine who knew I wanted to know more of about his heritage (and, yes, he knew I LOVED split pea soup)... The recipies ,of course, were wonderfully and simply authentic, but I was surprised at the connection to a history I knew little about. The family insight was wonderful. I also appreciated the interesting family photographs that connected the recepies to an authentic past. My pressure cooker has had a good time with this book! Thanks to the author! P.S.: The cover art is beautiful. I'd love to learn more about the artist.

Que delicioso! Mar 04, 2003
If you love Cuban food, CAFE MIMA is a "must have"! Ms. Perez features recipes that are not only easy to follow, but are accompanied by beautiful, colorful photographs. In addition, the book is organized so that you have several recipes grouped together on each day of the week, illustrating to the reader how to pair specific dishes. CAFE MIMA is a great way to sample exotic dishes from Cuba right in your own kitchen.

Ethnic cooking at its best! Mar 04, 2003
By Marjorie Anne Reis Having just recently discovered the joys of ethnic cooking, I found this cookbook to be full of homestyle recipes that everyone in the house could enjoy- even the kids! In my area there are not many authentic cuban restaurants, so with this book I have been able to enjoy the wonders of cuban food without being intimidated by complicated (often costly) recipes.
