510 stars would do this machine better justice...  Mar 19, 2004
By fan of quality products "turmfalke22"
After my flimsy Juiceman Junior finally went to small appliance heaven, I decided to look around for a machine that I can actually live with = use it without hating to clean the thing afterwards. I'd never heard of Breville before, but the solid 5-star rating caught my eye. The idea of a wide enough feeder tube so I don't have to spend so much prep time was enticing, but what made me decide to buy the machine (cheaper some other place, look around) were the high marks on cleanup and performance. - Usually I don't write a review right away, but this juicer simply blew me away. What a beautiful piece of well thought-through craftmanship! Being German, I certainly prefer lasting performance over flimsy throw-away items, and this machine looks and feels like it will stand the test of time. I don't find the motor any louder than my previous machine, so that's not a problem. One reviewer wrote to put a damp paper towel around the pulp catcher rim to prevent tiny bits of pulp from flying out. I still had few tiny escapees, probably because I didn't do it right, but one quick wipe took care of it. Cleanup is indeed almost a joy compared to other machines. The mesh screen is build solidly, no plastic parts to wear out where it counts. This machine is worth every penny and then some, and I thank all previous reviewers for having helped me select such a wonderful piece of kitchen equipment!

5Wonderful product  Oct 10, 2003
By J. A. Smith "jas5068"
I got this machine as a birthday present and am over the moon about it. I've made some wonderful juices...papaya/apple, apple/carrot/ginger, and citrus mix. Anything I put in is thoroughly juiced...very little moisture is left in the pulp container. It is loud but this doesn't bother me at all. I do find that I have to cut the fruit into smaller wedges...whole apples, in spite of what's advertised on the box, do NOT fit down the spout. Still, a very minor point. I highly recommend this machine...for the price, you can't beat it. And clean-up takes all of 5 minutes if you're thorough. Even comes with its own scrub brush.

5After intensive research, this was the one  Oct 04, 2003
By M. Zolikoff
I research almost everything I buy: my blender, coffeemaker, palm pilot, my car, electric razor, laundry detergent, etc.

After about 5 hours of research, I decided on the Breville JE900. My mother has a juicer from the TV guy (Jack LaL...) which I thought was decent. But I wanted to try something different, and the Breville had the highest marks I could find for the price.

Assembly was a snap after unpacking the box. While the juicer is mostly plastic, its high grade plastic and looks sharp on the counter.

The biggest differences between the Breville and the Jack LaL... juicer are: 1) size, 2) cleanup, and 3) noise.

The Breville is smaller (but juices just as much), MUCH easier to clean (the Breville mesh screen quickly snaps in and out, while the other one requires a special tool to unscrew the screen), and is louder than the Jack LaL juicer. All of the reviews I read said "the Breville is TOO LOUD." It may be a bit noisy, but it can crunch through hard pineapple, apple cores, grape stems, hard broccoli stalks, etc. Its a power-house!

In summary, a great buy at a great price (I didn't pay the full price - I found a site that sold it for about $30 cheaper, but charged $16 for shipping). It arrived in 5 days and I've been using it everyday before and after work.

Enjoy!

5No Juicer is Perfect: But This One is the Closest  Feb 08, 2004
By Martin Asiner
Most careful buyers research before buying, and with a potentially life-enhancing device like the Breville Juice Extractor, it is wisdom to compare juicers. Before I purchased the Breville, I compared it to its primary competition, most notably Jack LaLane's PowerJuicer. Fortunately, I had friends with both so I was able to make side by side comparisons. In the areas that count--ease of use, clean up time, amount of juice extracted, reliability of construction--both were roughly equal. The LaLane juicer was noticeably quieter, but the warranty was for merely 90 days while the Breville was for 1 year. In the world of tradeoff, I could endure a brief burst of vacuum cleaner level noise secure in the knowledge that the first year of operation is critical in deciding whether the cost was worth it.

Essentially, both Juicers are quite similar and represent the inescapable world of tradeoff between desire for healthy living and the irritation factor in achieving that living. The nature of any juicer is to provide juice. What separates the juicer also rans from the truly quality devices is the convenience. And it is precisely here that the Breville stands out. No juicer user is immune from the rather tedius chore of cleaning the device, but the designers of the Breville juicer have minimized the fuss so that one can thoroughly clean the juicer within 3-4 minutes. This time frame suggests that, even for the Breville, one is not likely to make a single glass of juice at a time. Rather, one is far more likely to make several glasses for the family at mealtimes or snack times. The amount of juice extracted is another significant factor. The Breville juicer gets at least as much juice as the LaLane PowerJuicer. One can measure the amount extracted by the dryness of the remaining pulp, which in this case, is nearly bone dry.

So the point is: Is the Breville juicer a worthy competitor to the best of its kind? My answer, having tried both the Breville and the LaLane juicers for many times, is yes. The Breville juicer works well, lives up to its hype, and even looks ergonomically well. Recommended.

5Best All-Around Juicer  Dec 06, 2003
By Gary A. Rice
I am admittedly brand new to juicing, and have had my Breville Juicer for only two days. However before I bought it, I was determined to do the necessary research to make sure I got a good product. When I first started looking for a juicer, I was a bit overwhelmed by how many different brands that are available. After MANY hours online, I decided to take the plunge with Breville's Juice Fountain. Although there are some juicers that are more expensive, or claimed to remove more juice and nutrients, all of these other brands had reviews stating that the owners only used these juicers occasionally due to the "work" involved to use and clean them. Let's face it: for most of us, our lives do not revolve around juice extraction, and to use a juicer on a regular basis, it needs to be able to fit into our already busy schedules. I am happy to report that the Breville Juice Fountain easily passes the ease of use test, and has earned a permanent place on my counter top for daily use. Part of what makes it a "life-changing" appliance is that it can actually fit into your daily lifestyle. Plus, it is a blast to use - what better way to relieve your daily stress than to pulverize helpless fruits and vegetables in seconds?

I timed my "in-and-out" time in the kitchen this morning. I used four carrots, three relatively small red apples, a big handful each of grapes, strawberries, and cranberries. I washed all the produce, and juiced it (actual juicing time took about one minute). It extracted about 30 ounces of juice that tasted absolutely delicious. I then rinsed all the parts with hot soapy water. The metal filter bowl DOES take several minutes to clean with the scrub brush, and it is important to get the minute particles out of the filter. I dried everything with a towel and put it back together, and left the kitchen exactly how it was when I started. Total time was about 15 minutes to make the juice, drink it and clean up - most breakfasts would take about this long anyway. If I were in a real hurry I could probably do the whole thing in 5 minutes if I "chugged" the juice and used the dishwasher, or just rinsed and let the parts air dry.

About the loudness: I was prepared to have to cover my ears after reading the reviews about how loud it was supposed to be. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was much quieter than I imagined it would be. As a comparison, my blender is significantly louder than the juicer, even with nothing in the blender. I am guessing from the other reviews that it is louder than some other juicer brands, but I can tell you will NOT have to cover your ears.

Speaking of the blender, one interesting thing I noticed is that unlike my blender blades which stop within a second or two of turning it off, the juicer spins for a good 20-30 seconds after turning it off. There is obviously some major power behind this juicer.

In summary, this is a very well-designed, very-powerful, and very-USABLE juicer. It is of very high quality, and is extremely durable. Best of all it is a product that you will enjoy using and want to incorporate into your daily lifestyle. I am extremely happy that I decided on this product, and look forward to using it for a long time.
