 Pan pops out! Extras dispenser sticks... Oct 31, 2009

So, this is my second Breadman. I returned the first after 3 weeks becasue the pan would pop up while kneading, espeically those tougher doughs like whole wheat. I would have to babysit it and relock it in when it came out. Came down once in the am to find my bread half mixed, but cooked through....what a mess!
I returned that one thinking it was a fluke (b/c when it did make bread, it was wonderful).
The second one had the same problem. Called Customer Service...very nice lady called me back, reading from a manual that I should try to bend the little metal clips a bit to get a better lock. Tried it, didn't work. Furthermoe, once a used raisons in the 'extras' dispenser, and not the thing sticks and con't relase other things into the bread (had to scrape out rosemary from there...ug).
Looking for a new brand and new machine.

Simplify really said everything that needs to be said. I'm only adding my review in the hopes that someone considering it will realize their experience is not out of the ordinary and/or that they aren't incompetent. The pan does pop up during the kneading process literally about every 30 seconds. Bending the clips (which I'm sure will eventually break) only slows down the popping up; it does not fix the problem. The problem is simply a design flaw. They need a pan that literally locks into place.
I don't usually leave reviews but the bread I was hoping to make for Christmas being ruined because of this prompted me to write. This machine otherwise is easy to use and makes tasty bread, but it's not something you can just set and forget; you have to be nearby and be ready during the mixing and kneading times to push it back every time. I just got distracted today given the visitors and thus my bread was ruined.
My guess is the other positive review is really one left by someone from the company trying to offset the negative review. That or they've never actually used it.

Like 2 other posts, the pan popped out on the second knead cycle right out of the box. My excitement of my first homemade loaf was almost completely lost after 4 attempts to keep the pan in place. I went in search of troubleshooting recommendations and they all including jerry-riging the unit somehow. I don't think something right out of the box should need wires and pliers to keep the pan seated! Luckily I was able to salvage the dough. I let it rest for 2 hours, kneaded it myself and baked it in the oven. For what its worth it tasted good. I'll be using that christmas gift money towards a completely different brand.

I've had mine for about a year and a half now. It appears the pan popping up is a common problem, but so far I have never once had this happen. My advice if you get one with this problem is return it for an exchange and give it another shot. This things makes wonderful bread of all varieties. The only problem I've had with it is sometimes it can cook a little too hot and I get crisper crust than I wanted, but the issue is infrequent, easily corrected, and only a very mild bother. The bread is delicious!

The manufacturer needs to recall all of these models because the clip method used to hold the pan in place just doesn't work. The first one my mom bought had the pan popping out every 30 seconds. The second one is doing exactly the same thing. The only way to get a loaf of bread out of it is to stand there and hold the pan in place. I called the manufacturer help line and they recommended bending the clips in with a pair of pliers. I tried that and still the same problem. This breadmaker should have never made it into production with such a bad design flaw.
