4Attractive solidly built toaster!  Jul 12, 2009
By S. Dann
I bought this toaster to replace my 14 year old Procter Silex toaster, which still works great, but had some issues that were starting to annoy me. I looked at this and a Cuisinart model, but decided to go with the Black and Decker because it looked more attractive. I must say that I am not dissapointed thus far. I love the bagel, defrost and reheat settings! My old toaster had wide slots, but the ones on the Black and Decker are larger, so they will do better with toasting bagels. Another thing I love about this toaster is that when you choose the "bagel" setting it only browns one side of the bagel. How cool is that?! The other cool feature of this toaster is the lift up feature. My old toaster required me to break out the untensils to get the bagels out, so this is really a plus. The only reason why I am giving this toaster a 4 and not a 5 is because it doesn't appear to have the cool touch feature. The sides of the toaster get pretty hot. Other then that this toaster is well worth the $$$.

By the way, the product description indicates that this is a 1400 watt toaster. That is incorrect. It is 850 watts. So, those that maintain this site might want to update the description. My old toaster was 900 watts and this outperforms it by a mile.

4cool toaster  Jan 22, 2010

Impulse buy (my old toaster still worked, just didn't look cool)
I like this toaster's retro deco look. Nice wide slots, the cancel button so you can rescue toast that is about to burn without having to force the handle up. It does get hot on the outside (my other toaster was cool to the touch on the outside), but I don't have small children who could get burnt anymore (and I simply avoid touching the thing myself).

Note: before toasting anything in this one, turn it up to a high setting and push down the leaver to burn off the "manufacturing" smell or you'll get toast that tastes like burnt plastic.

2Mediocre, but does the job  Sep 12, 2009
By Jeffrey C. Pandolfo "jpandolfo"
Good looking toaster that's well built but lacks the performance suitable for true toast satisfaction. I guess the product team didn't really test it with items from the local grocery store. It does a fine job toasting the lower 75% of your bagel/toast/large English muffin leaving the top 25% relatively warm and noticeably less "toasted." Small items such as Thomas' English muffins do just fine, but put a bagel in there and you might need to rotate it halfway through the toasting cycle. Additionally, the control knob changes the toasting quite a bit b/w 4.5 and 5 on the dial, so be careful else you'll burn things. Lastly, this toaster's speed is a bit on the casual side, too, taking noticeably longer to get the job done.

5A great bargain for a great price  Oct 13, 2009

After reading other reviews, I decided to purchase this toaster and I have not been disappointed. Something similar would cost twice as much at a regular department store. I love the stainless steel look and the buttons that let me choose what I am toasting.

2Not that good...  Jan 10, 2010
By dickwebs
In my search for the best toaster I thought that this one would fit my requirements. However, that is not the case. Toast is not always uniform in color on both sides, and as another reviewer noted, it is not deep enough to toast larger items such as English muffins and some waffles. I also noted that the slots aren't long enough to hold some of the whole grain breads that are now on the market. Back to the drawing board, I guess...
