5Aroma ARC-930SB Rice Cooker  Nov 14, 2010

Good design and efficient energy use.
Easy to clean.
Cooks Brown Rice better than any of the others I've used.
Two notes on use:
1) Clean Vent after every use for best operation.
2) If you want to leave it unattended and rely on the warming cycle(which works very well)
add an extra 1/4 cup of water at the beginning of the cooking cycle.

4Aroma Rice cooker  Jan 23, 2010
By M. KELLEY "Moab Kelleys"
I am always skeptical of Rice cookers,I have not been satisfied with the ones I have purchased in the past. This Rice cooker surprised me, it was very quick and cooked the rice to almost perfection. It keeps the Rice warm as well. I deliberately left it for up to six hours after cooking. The rice stayed warm, although it became a little sticky. It is easy to clean and stores easily. I wish on the digital display it had a timer that would be better than a red line with no readout.

5The best rice cooker!  Nov 11, 2010
By PA
I have been looking at rice cookers for over a year. Really wanted one, but did I really need it? I cook rice several times a week and it works out fine in a pot. Well, I finally jumped in and bought this. Everytime I use it- I comment on how much I LOVE my rice cooker. Perfect rice- white and brown. Can make it before I start cooking or earlier in the day and it will stay on warm and stay moist and tasty. No worrying about a pot boiling over and making a mess. No need to time it perfectly to finish when food is ready. Easy to clean up. I use the lines inside the pot for the best success at the perfect amount of water. Follow the simple directions. And the best brown rice I have ever made!! Made the mistake of not looking at the chart the 1st time and used the same amount of water as white rice- ooops. Dry dry dry. It needs and extra cup of water. Perfect and delicious and so easy. I am going to make some right now. Yum. You will love this rice cooker. 1 touch button programming.

4The Aroma Delivers  Jun 27, 2011
By Torrealta "torrealta"
Cooking rice is a tricky task with unpredictable outcomes. My teen-age sons like short-grain white rice, but only when cooked to the level of perfection achieved, for example, at Tachibana, a local Japanese restaurant. The Aroma delivers. The one-button automatic timing is correct for cooking the rice, and the warming feature works well. I have only steamed carrots in the steamer tray while cooking rice, and it does that well. None of the rice scorches, perhaps due in part to the non-stick surface of the cooking chamber, perhaps to sophisticated timing and temperature dispersion during cooking.

To rinse or not to rinse: The Aroma does a superior job without rinsing the uncooked rice. However, to achieve individual grains of cooked rice of restaurant quality, rinse the excess starch from the uncooked rice. (Excess starch is what makes rice sticky or mushy.) Measure the rice into the cooker (or some other bowl), add 3 times as much water (or even more), swirl the water around, and pour out the water through a sieve (to maintain the exact measure of rice). Repeat until the rinse water is clear, so that you can see the rice clearly through the water. (I do it 3 times with perhaps 4 x water.) Then add the measured water to the drained rice and cook. My boys consume rice made this way plain, without butter or flavoring of any sort.

The Aroma is a bit of a luxury item and one more claimant to counter space. A cheaper alternative would be to buy a little rice cooker at a general store in the Chinatown near where you live for about a third the cost. These things have two settings, cook and warm. On/off is accomplished by plugging it in or unplugging it from the power outlet. When you scoop out the cooked rice, you leave behind the rice stuck to the cooking insert. Soaking in water loosens the scorched and stuck rice for easy cleanup. A bit wasteful of food, but rice is cheap. I prefer the features, convenience and performance of the Aroma, including the on/off switch, the warming feature, and absence of scorched or stuck rice. Wasting food is something of a taboo with me.

Possible improvements for the Aroma cooker: A manual timer would make the cooker more versatile. A removable power plug would be helpful in moving the cooker to the sink or serving area. Resting the steamer insert on the exterior frame rather than on the rim of the cooker insert would reduce clutter when the cooker insert is removed.

4Great for the money, Good overall  Nov 24, 2011
By Michael
I am a cooking novice. I have used the rice cooker now about 10-15 times and the rice has been great every time. That should be worth 5 stars alone.

The one gripe I have is no indicator to give an approximation of when the rice will be done. I am not sure if other units has this, but I would definitely spend a few dollars for that. It makes planning the rest of your meal a little difficult. I think it has been relatively consistent on about how long it takes (depending on the amount of rice and water), but I can never seem to get a feel for whether I have 1 more minute or 20 more!!! You just press the button "white rice" and at some point on the near future it beeps when done. No time approximation, no halfway done notice, or that it is in some final cycle. I find myself looking to see how much steam is coming out and hoping in the next 10 minutes I can eat.
